Universal Cranes acquires Matherson Crane Hire in Gladstone Region

03 May 2022

Universal Cranes is excited to announce the recent acquisition of Matherson Crane Hire, which settled on 14 April 2023. The acquisition will enable Universal Cranes to expand its existing fleet and services in the region, while offering Matherson Crane Hire clients access to a wider range of equipment and expertise.

Matherson Crane Hire has proudly served the Gladstone Region for the past 44 years.

Wayne Matherson, second generation owner of Matherson Crane Hire, decided to take on new challenges with a career change into the training and skills development side of the crane industry.

“We would like to offer our sincere appreciation to all our clients, some of whom have been working with us for over 40 years. Thank you for your support,” said Wayne. “I have every confidence that Universal Cranes will continue to provide customers with the same high level of service and reliability that we have already provided.”

The Matherson Crane Hire fleet and team will be integrated into Universal Cranes’ well-established Gladstone operation on Red Rover Road.

“We are excited to welcome Matherson Crane Hire to the Universal Cranes family,” said Albert Smith, Group Managing Director of Universal Cranes. “Their reputation for excellence in crane rental services is well-known in the industry. Wayne and previously his father Neil have built a highly respected business. As a fellow family business we are proud to continue their legacy of providing safe, reliable, and efficient crane services to our clients.”

The combined business will operate out of Universal Cranes’ facility at Red Rover Road, and customers can continue to book cranes via the same phone numbers or call Universal Crane Hire Gladstone directly at 07 4972 9326. Adam Bauer and his team are available at any time to address any queries or concerns.

The acquisition of Matherson Crane Hire is part of Universal Cranes’ ongoing commitment to expanding its presence in Australia and providing family business style services with access to a national industry leading fleet.
